MOVE is, since its creation part of CERCA, and will thus be included in sphere of the new foundation alongside other 39 institutes in all domains of science and technology. MOVE shares membership with CREI, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), the Catalan Climate Sciences Institute (IC3) or the Catalan Institute of Nanotechnology (ICN). Although very diverse in origin and organization, the CERCA institutes all share an aspiration for meritocracy, competitiveness and internationalization. The outcome of this effort can be assessed by the concentration of 22 European Research Council (ERC) grants since 2007, representing more than half of the grants in Catalonia (40) and almost as much as all institutions in rest of Spain (26).

The CERCA Foundation is a technical service of the Government of Catalonia tasked with supervising, supporting and facilitating the activities of the CERCA centers. Its purpose is to encourage and maximize synergies, co-ordination and strategic co-operation between institutes, to improve positioning, visibility and impact of the research carried out and to facilitate communication between public and private agents.
